MB 20 series
The Alfa Laval MB 20 series is designed for cell-harvesting centrifugation in pilot-scale research and small-scale manufacturing. MB 20 separators are specifically developed for gentle and highly efficient harvesting of biopharma and biotech fermentations, producing end products such as rDNA, vaccines, and probiotics. In addition, the MB 20 Bactofuge™ provides continuous solids removal, making it particularly suitable for high-concentration cultures.
Separator system for cell harvesting centrifugation, optimized for biopharma and biotech applications
- Efficient and gentle separation resulting in high yield
- Low lysis and high filterability, reducing costs of downstream filtration
- Enables continuous removal of solids up to 40% concentration in feed
- Accurate scalability from pilot scale to large-scale production
- Fully automated and flexible for process variations
The complex and delicate nature of cells requires careful handling to secure high yields and facilitate downstream filtering. Through continuous and highly efficient separation, MB 20 and MB 20 Bactofuge centrifuges bring improved productivity to biopharma applications at pilot scale.
The MB range of centrifuges incorporates unique Alfa Laval technologies, like Hermetic Design™ for enhanced product handling in various separation applications, and Bactofuge®, facilitating gentle but speedy processing of high-solids broths with continuous discharge of a highly concentrated solids phase. With these innovations, the MB centrifuges add profitability and offers unmatched scalability for biotech and biopharmaceutical pilot projects and small-scale production.
Innovative technology behind MB 20 series
Hermetic Design™
Alfa Laval Hermetic Design™ improves product handling in a wide range of separation applications. The air-tight and bottom-fed bowl enables gentle acceleration of media, with minimal foaming and oxygen pick-up, providing high product yield and low filter costs.
Bactofuge®
Alfa Laval Bactofuge® enables gentle and speedy continuous solids removal for high concentrations cultures, resulting in higher yield, with minimum risk of clogging. In addition to higher separation output, Bactofuge preserves the quality of the solids stream, and allows a flexible and controlled operation.
