Sustainable CAP Initiative Supports Ontario Meat Processors with $13 Million Investment

To support the meat processors and abattoirs in Ontario, the governments of Canada and Ontario are investing over $13 million in upgrading their equipment and practices to enhance productivity and efficiency.

This funding, shared between the two levels of government, will aid 151 projects aimed at improving meat handling and processing technologies, ultimately increasing production capacity and competitiveness within Ontario's meat processing industry.

Lawrence MacAulay, federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, emphasized that “There is a growing demand for the high-quality products we produce and process across Canada,” and that “This funding through Sustainable CAP will help the meat processing industry in Ontario access new technologies and equipment to increase production and meet that demand.”

“The Meat Processors Capacity Improvement Initiative is a prime example of how our government is making the right investments in the right places. By supporting meat processors who are working to improve efficiencies and increase capacity, we’re ensuring that Ontario’s meat processing sector can compete globally and opening doors to new opportunities,” says Lisa Thompson, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
