Ontario-based Dairy Distillery partners with Michigan Milk Producers Association to turn dairy byproduct into biofuel

Using the 14,000 tonnes of milk permeate that Michigan Milk Producers Association members create annually, Dairy Distillery (a Canadian distillery that produces vodka from milk permeate) is turning it into 2.2 million gallons of ethanol.

The biofuel will then be blended with transportation fuel - offsetting 14,500 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. 

 

“I’ve been inspired by MMPA dairy farmers and their commitment to sustainability. Using a milk byproduct to reduce the carbon footprint of dairy is an innovation that will make a significant contribution to MMPA’s net-zero carbon emissions goal,” explains Dairy Distillery CEO Omid McDonald.
