Intergovernmental collaboration key to Canada’s agricultural sustainability

In a recent webinar, panelists from Canada's agriculture sector discussed the importance of collaboration between federal, provincial, and territorial (FPT) governments for the industry's future success.

Some of the challenges identified included differing regional priorities and a need for further alignment between all levels of government.

 

"FPT governments often have incentives for independent action and those arise not just because they're able to act independently, but also because they have different policy and political priorities," says  University of Toronto professor Grace Skogstad.

 

Panellists also examined how the federal government's recent release of the Sustainable Agriculture Strategy is an opportunity to engage stakeholders and use their input to foster collaboration with the provinces and territories.
