First Cobalt raising funds for Ontario refinery to reopen to produce battery sulphate

Plans to advance and recommission, in northern Ontario, the only permitted cobalt refinery in North America.

“…the refinery will be able to produce either cobalt sulphate for the lithium-ion battery market or cobalt metal for industrial, military or aerospace industries. The plant will produce 25,000 tonnes of cobalt sulphate per year, an amount equal to %5 of all cobalt produced around the globe.

First Cobalt is also engaged in several cobalt exploration projects. The North, Central and South projects near Cobalt, Ontario, host historic silver-cobalt producers. A technical report on these properties was completed in 2018…

…The Province is supporting the Strategy with further investments announced as part of the 2021 budget,

including $10 million over three years to develop policy on reducing the carbon intensity of fuel and advancing the hydrogen economy. In addition, BC launched the "Clean Industry and Innovation Rate" in January 2021 to help support innovative industries by lowering the cost for such industries to connect to BC Hydro's grid.
